4-4 File Locks
PROBLEM: It's common to access databases that when one user leaves the program by turning off the computer in the middle of the Mod Calc program, files may be left open. If Novell does not release them, they remain "locked" Error # 3000 Reserved Error -8194 may be displayed.
SOLUTION: To avoid this problem, setup all workstations properly. If one workstation is improper, it might effect other users on a network. To check each user's installation, right click on desktop icon and go to properties\shortcut\start in field. Correct install must have a user name after mod calc directory (e.g., F:\mcwin\username). If start in field not correct, re-run the Netsetup.exe program by going to Start\Run\Browse\MCWIN and clicking NetSetup.exe (FAQ 3).
It's best to determine if one user repeatedly locks files and have that user log-in and log-off properly. If identification is not apparent, have all users log-in and log-off. If a user has a file conflict and that's why Mod Calc is being improperly exited, run Smart Fix as well to identify and correct any file conflicts (FAQ 2B). If any user is simply turning off their computer in the middle of a Mod Calc session, instruct them that they must properly exit the program.
