FAQ 6 - How do I import mini-mainframe data?

Users with data stored on a mini or mainframe computer or excel spreadsheet who wish to transfer it into Mod Calc must ask their data department to create an ASCII or text file. Smart-Comp's built-in data exchange module is very flexible and can handle either single file or one large combined file with hundreds of employers' payroll and claims records.

Mod Calc's data exchange module can handle a variety of tasks. Many of these tasks are already pre-programmed into our convenient drag-and-drop data exchange module. Underwriters are pleased when they can import payroll and claims data either combined in a single file or broken out into dozens or hundreds of separate files for automated mod calculations.

Risk and Loss Control managers often choose to import claims tracking data without payrolls (as Mod Calc has built-in shortcuts that can assign Mod Point, Premium and Bottom Line costs to any account in seconds) for 'real time' enhanced loss runs with custom reporting and color graphics.

Whatever your need, just let us know and we'll be pleased to guide you through the data exchange process. We recommend you start by determining exactly what tasks you would like to automate, obtaining a file layout document from your data vendor so we can assist you in determining which data fields you want to transfer to the Mod Calc program, then giving us a call.
